About Lorien Novalis Lorien Novalis School is a Rudolf Steiner School in the Hills District, north west of Sydney, Australia. The classrooms are nestled into a five hectare site of bush and orchard, surrounded by gardens, bees and birds. Each class has a home room where they are under the care of a teacher/guardian who stays with the class for 7 years in primary and five years in high school. "In Lorien the ancient things still lived in the waking world. He saw no colour but those he knew… but they were fresh and poignant as if he had at that moment first perceived them and made for them names new and wonderful… On the land of Lorien no shadow lay." Tolkien.
"The highest task of education is - to take command of one's higher self." Novalis.
"Our highest endeavor must be to develop free human beings who are able of themselves to impart purpose and direction to their lives." Rudolf Steiner. | |

Brief History Lorien Novalis opened on Monday, September 13, 1971 at Pymble with 8 children. During that term other moves finally led to a large house at Normanhurst and by the end of the term there were 30 children at the school. During 1972 the permanent property was found at Dural and school started there in Term 1, 1973. With a combination of helpful benefactors, dedicated hard work by parents, teachers, friends and government grants, the school has progressed to a large complex of buildings housing a vital, creative education community providing full kindergarten, primary and high school education up to Year 12. Lorien Novalis school is nestled in five hectares of native bushland in Glenhaven. It has its own orchard (a reminder of past rural days) and boasts a collection of unique, beautifully built classrooms, among the best in Australia. Every day our pupils and students enter an environment that is shaped as much as possible to their developing needs.
